Marion, AR

I've got a new adventure to share. We recently made the trek from Montgomery, AL to Marion, AR as we head west to Yellowstone, and I've got to say, it was quite the journey.

The Long Haul

First things first: this drive was no joke. We're talking about a 6.5-hour journey, which might not sound like much if you're zipping along in a sedan. But when you're at the helm of a 40' coach and towing a full-size pickup? That's a different story altogether. It's a test of endurance, focus, and patience - especially when navigating through city traffic and dealing with interstate drivers that have no concept of the braking limitations of a 40,000 pound vehicle.

Our Destination: Memphis KOA Journey

For those of you not familiar with Marion, it's a small town just outside of Memphis, Tennessee. We set up camp at the Memphis KOA Journey, and I've got to say, it's been a pleasant surprise. While Marion itself is pretty quiet without much going on, that's exactly what we needed after a long drive.

The KOA Journey here is a peaceful spot. It's got all the amenities we need, and the best part? Smith and Wesson have been living their best lives here. They've made a bunch of new friends in the park.

A Home Base for Adventures

Now, here's where RV life shows its flexibility. We booked the spot for 20 days, but due to some business commitments, we were only physically here for about 4 days. The rest of the time, we were jetting off to Montgomery, Columbus, and DC for work.

It might seem counterintuitive to pay for a spot we're not always using, but having a secure "home base" to return to between trips is invaluable. It's comforting to know that no matter where work takes us, we have a familiar place to come back to where Smith and Wesson are comfortable and all our gear is set up.

Since Glady's gets about 6 miles to the gallon, it doesn't make sense to drive it back and forth.

Local Flavors: Tops Bar-B-Q

Now, let's talk about the real star of the show: the food. If you find yourself in the Memphis area, do yourself a favor and head to Tops Bar-B-Q. The BBQ there is outstanding. I'm talking melt-in-your-mouth, flavor-packed, make-you-want-to-slap-your-mama good (but don't actually slap your mama, of course).

It's joints like Tops that make this nomadic lifestyle so rewarding. Every new stop is an opportunity to discover local gems and flavors you might never have experienced otherwise.

Wrapping Up

This leg of our journey has been a mix of long drives, quiet evenings, quick flights, and fantastic food. It's a perfect example of how RV living can adapt to your lifestyle, whether you're constantly on the move or need a stable base for a while.

I'm grateful for the experiences we've had here in Marion and the surrounding area. The open road continues to call, and we're ready to answer.

Until next time, keep those wheels rolling!
