A new chapter!

For the past year and a half, I’ve been living a split life—part-time in Virginia, part-time in the RV. You’d think that much time on the road would mean endless adventures, but the reality was different. Most days, my “RV life” was still 60+ hours a week building my first company, ICS Inc. The scenery changed, but the pace didn’t.

That all shifted last week when I signed the papers to sell ICS. For the first time in years, my calendar isn’t dictating every mile. I can finally trade conference calls for trailheads and deadlines for detours.

Of course, I didn’t exactly jump straight into vacation mode. For the past eight months, I’ve also been deep into another project—renovating and furnishing our newest short-term rental, Glacier Gateway Lodge, in Hungry Horse, MT. It overlooks the Flathead River and is absolutely peaceful. It’s been a labor of love, and for the last two months I’ve been based at the excellent Columbia Falls RV Park to wrap it up.

Yesterday, I gave myself a gift—a day with no to-do list. I headed into Glacier National Park and drove the Going-to-the-Sun Road. It’s one of those drives where every bend in the road feels like a postcard come to life. One minute you’re skirting the edge of a glacial lake so clear it mirrors the sky; the next, you’re climbing into alpine terrain with waterfalls spilling down sheer rock faces. The road winds past towering peaks, fields of wildflowers, and valleys so deep they seem to swallow sound.

At Logan Pass, the highest point on the road, I stepped out into crisp mountain air and felt like I was standing on the roof of the world. Around me, snow still clung to the ridges even in August, and mountain goats grazed as if they owned the place. The views in every direction were so vast and layered they almost didn’t seem real.

It’s the kind of experience no photo can truly capture—one you have to see, hear, and feel for yourself. And for me, it marked the start of a new chapter—one where there’s finally time to take the long way around.
